Affordable EV with Speedy Charging
The 2022 Nissan Leaf is a practical and affordable EV with a lengthy pedigree. This EV has been on the market for several years, making it almost as iconic as the Toyota Prius. The newest Leaf has a lower price tag, a spacious interior, and fast-charging capabilities.
Impressive All-Electric Performance
Buyers interested in the 2022 Nissan Leaf get to choose from two powertrains, both with 100% electric motors. The first includes a 40-kWh lithium-ion battery with 147 horsepower, while the second has a 62-kWh battery and 214 horsepower. As expected, the larger battery delivers a longer range. All trims come standard with front-wheel drive.
The Leaf charges quickly. With a Level Two 240-volt charger, the Leaf gets to 100% in 7.5 hours. The Leaf Plus needs 11.5 hours. Drivers can also use DC Fast Charging stations to get to 80% charges in 40 minutes and 45 minutes respectively. The EPA-estimated Leaf driving range of 149 miles, while the Leaf Plus achieves an EPA-estimated range of 226 miles.
What’s impressive about the Leaf electric motors is the zero-to-60 speed. The Nissan Leaf performance includes a speedy acceleration off the line at 6.8 seconds. The Leaf is an ideal vehicle for city drivers who want impressive fuel economy, zero emissions, and easy maneuverability. All Leaf trims come with the e-Pedal feature for regenerative braking to extend the battery range. With the e-Pedal, the Leaf slows without the driver needing to push the brake pedal.
Loaded with Safety Features
The 2022 Nissan Leaf safety rating was five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This crash test rating comes from the impressive collection of Nissan Leaf safety features. They include a Rearview Camera, Rear Parking Sensors, Forward Collision Warning, Forward Automatic Emergency Braking, Pedestrian Detection, Blind-Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Automatic High-Beam Headlights, and Rear Door Alert.
Optional safety features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Surround-View Parking Camera System, and Driver Attention Alert. Nissan also offers the available ProPilot Assist, which is a semi-autonomous driving system that allows the Leaf to accelerate, steer, and brake on some divided highways.
Impressive Collection of Tech Features
Nissan adds the NissanConnect infotainment system to all trims. It has an 8.0-inch touchscreen along with buttons and knobs for more control options. The standard features on the infotainment system include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, Bluetooth, and four USB ports. The standard sound system has four speakers.
Buyers can add more features like navigation, a six-speaker premium audio system, or a Bose audio system with seven speakers. The Leaf also has available automatic climate control, push-button start, and keyless entry.
Several Trims and Styling Choices
The base trim is the Nissan Leaf S. This model has cloth seats with manual adjustability. Upgrading to the Leaf SV gives drivers heated front seats, a leather wrapped and heated steering wheel, and fog lights. This trim also comes with navigation, an upgraded sound system, and adaptive cruise control.
The first Leap Plus trim includes the S trim base features with the larger battery and a 100-k quick-charge port. The SV Plus has the SV comfort features and the Technology package with features like Intelligent Around View Monitor, Intelligent Driver Alertness, and more.
The 2022 model year top trim is the SL Plus. It comes with leather upholstery, the Bose premium sound system, and ProPilot Assist with a Surround-View Parking Camera System.
All trims have room for five with a surprising amount of cargo space. With the second-row seats upright, drivers get 23.6 cubic feet of cargo space that increases to 30 cubic feet with the rear seats folded.
